Gundam and robots enthusiasts will finally be able to get an upclose encounter with this limited time attraction in Yokohama.Gundam Yokohama is dedicated to the iconic Gundam anime franchise, which first aired in 1979. The attraction features a life-sized Gundam statue, interactive exhibits, virtual reality simulations, and much more.

Entrance Fee to the Life-Size Moving Gundam in Yokohama

The Entrance fee to the Life-Size Moving Gundam in Yokohama range from ¥1,650 for young adults 13 years and above and ¥1,100 for 7 – 12 years old children. Entrance to the observation deck would cost ¥3,300.

The Gundam Dock Tower has observation decks for fans to have a close up view. The statue will be taking different poses in a 30 minutes interval and will be lit up at night.

The 18m tall Life Size Moving Gundam located in the Gundam Factory, Yokohama officially opened its doors on December 19, 2020.

The first show starts at 10:20 AM and the last show is at 7:45 PM. There are 4 shows to watch in Gundam Factory Yokohama: Startup Experiment for 8 min 45 sec; Standby Mode for 5 min 20 seconds; F00/Al Awakening! Full version for 11min 45 seconds and F00/Al Awakening! Half Version for 4 min 35 sec.

There are no limit on how many shows you can watch. You may stand right in front of the Gundam Factory, go up the observation deck for an additional fee or sit down at the benches near the food stalls or beside the Gundam Factory Shop.

How to go from Tokyo to Gundam Factory in Yokohama?

To commute from Tokyo Station to Gundam Factory Yokohama, take the JR Tokaido Main line going to Yokohama Station then transfer to the Minatomirai Line finally arriving in Motomachi Chukagai Station then walk 10-14 minutes to the Gundam Factory Yokohama. Travel time is 1 hour.

Another option from Tokyo to the moving Gundam in Yokohama is by taking the JR Yamanote Line (clockwise) to Shinagawa station, transfer to the Keikyu Main Line going to Yokohama station and finally taking the Minatomirai Line to Motomachi Chukagai Station.

To commute from Shibuya, Shinjuku, or Ikebukuro to Gundam Yokohama using the JR Pass, ride the Yamanote Line to Shinagawa Station then transfer to the Tokaido Main Line to Yokohama Station. Alternatively, you can ride the Tokyu Toyoko Line from Shibuya Station to Motomachi Chukagai Station then walk 10-15 minutes to Yokohama Pier.

To commute from Shin Yokohama Station to Gundam Factory Yokohama, ride the JR Yokohama line to Yokohama Station, then transfer to the MinatoMirai Line to Motomachi Chukagai Station. You may also ride only up to Kinkuna Station then ride the Tokyu Toyoko Line to Yokohama Station and stay on the same train to Motomachi Chukagai Station.

Note that Keikyu Main Line and Minatomirai Line are not JR Lines and will need separate fare / pass.

Moving Gundam Model

The moving gundam is based on RX-78-2 model which first appeared in 1979 anime Mobile Suit Gundam. The series was then re edited and made a theatrical movie release in 1981.

The gundam’s Pilot was Amuro Ray and one of the most famous characters who appeared in at least 2 anime and one movie and one OVA.

Note that the Yamanote line is a circle line and the trains go around without the need to alight except in some cases where the train will be out of service where the last stop is indicated on the train. All passengers need to alight and wait for the next train to continue the journey.
